Airport Check-In

When can I check-in for my flight?

Check-in begins 4 hours prior to departure at the Ghana International Airlines counters. Customers are to note that the check-in counters close at least an hour and thirty minutes before departure.

Do I need to check-in at the airport?

Yes. You must check-in at the airport with your luggage to receive your boarding pass and baggage tags for your flight. You will also be required to present your passport and valid visa at the Ghana International Airlines check-in counter.

What happens if I cannot make my flight?

If you cannot make your flight, please call the GIA Reservation Centre at +233 21 213 555 in Accra or + 44 207 100 1165 in the United Kingdom or +49 211 171 67836 in Germany at least 24 hours before departure to effect a change to your reservation. The fare class and type of ticket you originally purchased for travel will determine your ability to make changes to your reservation. On many tickets, the failure to provide advance notice of cancellation will result in the forfeiture of your reservation and its value.

Airport Information

Where can I find information on where Ghana International Airlines is located at my departing airport?

You can find flight information on the flight information screens located at vantage points in your departing airport. Also such information can be obtained from information desks in the departure terminal.

Baggage

How many bags am I allowed to check in when traveling internationally?

Each business class passenger is allowed to check-in two (2) pieces of luggage each of which should not exceed 32 kg ( 2x32kg) (64 kg total).

The economy class passenger is allowed to check-in two (2) pieces of luggage each not exceeding 23 kg (46 kg total).

Travellers carrying infants are allowed to check one stroller/carriage in the cargo hold along with a small infant care bag that contains items necessary for taking care of the infant during the flight.

How many bags am I allowed to carry-on?

Each ticketed customer is allowed one (1) carry-on bag.

In addition to the checked luggage, each business class customer is allowed one carry-on bag not exceeding 10 kg.

The economy class passenger is allowed one carry-on bag not exceeding 8 kg.

What happens if my luggage exceeds the allowable limit?

There is a 15 USD or 8 GBP or 10 EURO fee charged for each additional kilogramme of luggage carried.

What is Ghana International Airlines' liability when transporting baggage?

For the loss of, damage to, or delay in delivery of baggage, liability is limited and is subject to proof of claim. GIA is not responsible for certain items in checked or unchecked baggage including, but not limited to, money, jewellery, medication, electronic or photographic equipment and similar valuables. GIA does not assume liability for normal wear and tear.

How do I report a baggage claim?

Notice of missing baggage, damage, or pilferage of checked baggage must be given to GIA at the airport within 4 hours of the arrival of your flight.

Boarding Passes

Boarding passes can only be obtained at the Ghana International Airlines ticket counter on the day of departure.

Can I print my boarding passes online before I go to the airport?

No, currently GIA does not offer the option for customers to print boarding passes online before the flight.

Cash/Cheques

Can I pay for my reservation with cash or cheque?

GIA accepts cash only as payment. Ghana International Airlines does NOT accept cheques as a form of payment currently.

Where do I pay for my ticket?

You can effect payment at the following locations:

  • Head-office (Accra)
  • Kotoka International Airport (Accra)
  • Skybreaks (Gatwick Airport - London)
  • Avcenta Airline Solutions (Dusseldorf International Airport - Germany)

Alternatively, you may purchase your ticket through your local travel agency.

Credit Cards

Does GIA accept any form of credit card payment?

No. Currently GIA does not accept credit card payments.

Fares

Why is my fare no longer available?

All fares quoted are for seats "currently" available and are only guaranteed once purchased. Additionally, with certain discounted fares, seats may be limited and other restrictions may apply. Fares are subject to change without notice.

In-flight Services

What type of in-flight service does GIA offer?

Business Class Services
Business class services include a wide comfortable seat with 59 inches of seat pitch, excellent in flight service, a selection of sumptuous meals and snacks with complimentary wines and liquors, 2 X 32 kg of checked baggage, 10 kg of hand baggage, special priority check in counters, and in select airports arrival and departure private lounge services including snacks, drinks, and showers.

Main Cabin Services
Main Cabin services include a comfortable seat with 34 inches of seat pitch, a choice of meal selections, 2 X 23 kg of checked baggage, 8 kg of hand baggage, and excellent in flight services.

International Travel

What documentation is required when I travel internationally?

All customers travelling internationally are required to present proof of identity such as a valid government-issued photo ID and proof of citizenship such as a passport with a valid visa where required or other documentation such as a travel certificate at the GIA ticket counter.

It is the passenger's responsibility to ensure they comply with all current documentation requirements.

Can I reserve seats and print boarding passes online if I am traveling to an international destination?

No. Your seat reservation and boarding pass issuance can be done on the day of departure at the GIA ticket counter.

Refunds

How do I obtain a refund?

Refunds are subject to the rules and regulations governing the particular class of ticket purchased. Please contact the Ghana International Airlines Reservation Centre at +233 21 213 555 or + 44 207 100 1165 or + 49 211 171 67836 to obtain your refund.
If your ticket was issued by a travel agent, you must return your ticket coupon to the travel agency for the refund to be processed.

ARE THERE ANY RULES GOVERNING SUCH REFUNDS?

YES. PLEASE FIND THE RULES BELOW:

  • All tickets are valid for 12 months from date of issue
  • Partially used tickets are non-refundable with no exceptions
  • Non-refundable tickets are not refundable with no exceptions
  • Wholly unutilised fully refundable tickets are refundable with no penalty at any time (inc. after departure date)
  • Partially refundable tickets may be refunded for 50% of base fare penalty (refund of 50% base fare + all taxes/fees) - only prior to departure date
  • Partially refundable tickets may be CHANGED after departure date for a No-Show penalty of $100 in addition to change penalty and fare difference

 

ARE THERE ANY EXCEPTIONS?

  • In case of death of passenger, full refund of unused portion will be offered (inc. partially used) upon presentation of death certificate and proof of relationship.
  • In case of illness of passenger, waiver of change fee will be offered upon presentation of a doctor's certificate specifying inability to travel on specific date.

Reservations

How many passengers can be booked on a reservation?

You may book up to nine (9) passengers on a reservation.

If I want to book more than nine passengers, what do I do?

If you would like to book travel for 10 or more passengers travelling together as a group, please contact the Ghana International Airlines Reservations Department for assistance at +233 21 213 555 or + 44 207 100 1165 or + 49 211 171 67836.

Can I book a reservation online for same day travel?

Yes, you can.

How do I correct a misspelled name on my reservation?

Please call the GIA Reservation Centre on +233 21 213 555 or + 44 207 100 1165 or + 49 211 171 67836.

Can I change the return portion of my itinerary if I've already flown my outbound?

Yes, you may change the return portion of your itinerary online up to 24 hours prior to the flight's scheduled departure.

How much is it if I change my reservation?

A date change penalty of US $100 is payable, in addition to any fare difference. Please call the GIA Reservation Centre on +233 21 213 555 or + 44 207 100 1165 or + 49 211 171 67836.

What happens if I fail to inform GIA of my intention to fly at a later date?

A no-show penalty of $100 will be charged in addition to date change penalty and any fare difference.

One of the passengers on my reservation cannot travel with me.

How can I remove a passenger from my reservation?

Schedule Changes

If my reservation was involved in a schedule change how will I be contacted and re-accommodated?

We would contact you by the phone number or other contact information such email on your reservation and will be re-accommodated at no extra cost.

Seat Assignments

Can I assign a seat to my reservation?

Yes, a seat can be assigned at check-in.

Special Service Requests

Can a customer request any special service requests through fly-ghana.com?

No. All special requests must be arranged by calling the GIA Reservations Centre on +233 21 213 555 or + 44 207 100 1165 or + 49 211 171 67836.

Security

How can I tell whether my browser has adequate security for exchanging private information via the Web?

Your browser should support 128-bit encryption. For the two most common browsers follow these instructions to find out your browser's level of encryption: Internet Explorer: At the top of the browser window, select Help > About Internet Explorer. Check whether your browser supports 128-bit encryption. Netscape Navigator: At the top of the browser window, select Help > About Communicator. Check whether your browser supports 128-bit encryption. If you do not have the latest version of Internet Explorer or Netscape, the process might be slightly different but will be similar to the above.

How can I obtain a browser with 128-bit encryption technology?

Contact the company that provides you with Internet access (e.g. your local Internet service provider, America Online, Microsoft) or visit the Web site of the company that makes your browser (e.g. Microsoft for the Internet Explorer browser, Netscape for the Netscape Navigator browser). Upgrades are usually available for download, free of charge.

Is it safe for me to send my personal information over the Web?

GIA takes every practical precaution to protect your confidential information. When you book your reservation on fly-ghana.com, we require you to use a Web browser that has security technology, also known as encryption technology, to ensure that your personal information are safely transmitted via the Internet.

How can I tell if my connection to fly-ghana.com is secure?

You will see on certain pages a security icon or symbol (for example, a padlock) in the lower right-hand side of your screen. This symbol generally appears on pages from which we collect sensitive information. If the symbol is there, it means that data you submit on that page is encrypted. Encrypting data helps us to stop unauthorized third-parties from accessing your data while it is being transferred to Ghana International Airlines.

Travel Vouchers

How do I redeem my travel voucher?

If you want to redeem a travel voucher, please call the Ghana International Airlines Reservation Centre at +233 21 213 555 or + 44 207 100 1165 or+ 49 211 171 67836 and an agent will be happy to assist you. Please note that travel vouchers cannot be redeemed for cash and cannot be used to pay for service fees or fare difference.

When does my travel voucher expire?

If your travel voucher was created based on an existing reservation (a cancellation, difference in air fare), travel must be booked and completed using that travel voucher within one (1) year from the booking date of the original reservation. If your travel voucher was created as goodwill for future travel or was a promotional give away, travel must be booked and completed within one (1) year from the date the travel voucher was issued.

Unaccompanied Minors

Who is a minor?

A minor is a child who is 6 years and above.

Can I book a reservation online for my child that is traveling alone?

No you cannot book online for an unaccompanied minor. You must book with the GIA ticketing office.

What are the requirements for booking an unaccompanied minor (UM)?

INFANTS/CHILDREN UNDER 6 YEARS TRAVELLING WITH DESIGNATED ADULT(S) OTHER THAN PARENT(S)

  1. A typed and faxed letter of authorization from parents(s)
  2. The letter must include the parent(s) residential and /or postal address and telephone number(s)
  3. The letter must indicate the name and passport number of the designated person as well as those of the child/children
  4. The letter must indicate parent's/guardian's undertaking to meet and receive child/children on arrival
  5. A faxed copy of the bio-page of the parent's and the designated person's Passport/ID card/Driver's license
  6. PNR of designated person to be attached to child/infant and fed into History/Comments section in the SITA System by staff where appropriate

The above information is also applicable to Unaccompanied Minors (UMs) who are above 12 years and are frequent travellers but are not required to pay the UM processing fee.

First time Child/Children travellers above 12 years must register with GIA for the UM service or we will be unable to accept them for travel.
