Checked Luggage
A generous checked luggage of two (2) pieces is allowed for both
economy and business classes as follows:
Economy class: 2 X 23 kg
Business class: 2 X 32 kg
Hand Luggage
Economy class: 8 kg
Business class: 10 kg
Excess Luggage Charges
Any extra kilogramme attracts an £8 if flying out of London, €10
out of Dusseldorf or $15 out of Accra.

Liquids In Hand Luggage
This is governed by the European Union liquid policy which
offers greater protection against current security threats.
Individual quantities of liquids, gels or pastes must be held in
individual containers not exceeding 100ml. These containers must be
carried in clear plastic, zip-top or re-sealable bag which does not
exceed 20cm X 20cm (8in x 8in) or equivalent to one (1) litre (1.75
pint) capacity. These may include:
- Hair sprays
- Lotions
- Shampoos
- Medicines
- Creams
- Toothpastes
- Perfumes
- Liquid or aerosol deodorants
- Water and other drinks, soups and syrups
Note that these items must fit in the bag comfortably and the
bag must be completely closed.
Banned Items
Transportation of some materials is considered dangerous by
virtue of the fact that these articles or substances are capable of
posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment.
Some of these materials are listed below:
- Flammable liquids
- Flammable solids
- Explosives
- Oxidising materials
- Organic peroxides - bleaches
- Infectious substances - bacteria, viruses
- Radioactive materials
- Corrosives - wet cell batteries
- Gas cylinders containing toxic, flammable, non-flammable and
refrigerated liquefied gas
- Magnetised materials
- Dry ice - solid carbon dioxide
Duty Free Liquids
Customers may purchase any liquid items once they have cleared
security provided that it is carried in a tamper-evident bag and
the receipt is attached to the bag or is placed inside the bag so
it is easily readable.
Damaged, Lost Or Delayed Luggage
When your baggage gets delayed or lost during the journey, Ghana
International Airlines makes every effort to return such baggage in
the shortest possible time.
Insurance And Luggage Liability Limitations
Ghana International Airlines makes every attempt to ensure
careful handling of baggage. However, the airlines' liability for
loss, delay or damage to baggage is limited unless a higher value
is declared in advance and additional charges paid.
The extent of airline liability is not based on the weight of
the bag nor its value. Ghana International Airlines does not accept
liability for fragile, valuable, perishable articles or baggage
which is packed in damaged or unsuitable containers.
Under the Conditions of Carriage we accept no liability for the
loss of jewellery, other valuables and money contained in checked
baggage. You are advised to keep valuables, important documents and
currencies in your hand luggage.
We advice that you obtain adequate travel insurance
cover prior to your journey.
